spotlight on olive oil

There is a reason that olive oil has been used to make soap for thousands of years. Typically, it is the number one oil used in most handmade soap. Olive oil helps produce a creamy and moisturizing lather.

Olive oil is low cleansing, mild and nourishing for the skin. Those with sensitive skin should seek out soap made with high amounts of olive oil.

If you see the term Castile, that means that the soap is crafted using 100% olive oil. Marseille soap must contain at least 72% olive oil.

The soap at bookish apothecary is formulated with 50% olive oil. Quality olive oil is a bit spendy and is one of the reasons why a bar of handmade soap is more expensive than what one would typically pay for the detergent laden, so-called soap at the department store.
